Solterra Teams up with National Geographic

The National Geographic Society and SolTerra Communications are working together to highlight what has been called the "wildlife equielent of putting a man on the moon." Operation Migration, along with its partners in the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership have been teaching birds to follow ultralight aircraft in an effort to reintroducce Whooping Cranes to a flyway in eastern North America. The birds are conditioned to accept teh aircraft, and costumed handlers as their parents. Having instinctual blind faith to follow their parents wherever they may go, the young birds take to the air behind aircraft and are led from Wisconsin to Florida. The journey often takes over two months.

Solterra has been documenting this project for six years and this past year National Geographic Film & Television asked SolTerra to help them film fro their Wild Chronicles program hosted by Boyd Matson. The program aired in the First half of November, 2006 on PBS stations across the United States and a streaming web version is available at Nationalgeographic.com

"The people at Wild Chronicles did a wonderful segment on this project, capturing the awe and sometimes silly look of this project. It was a delight to work with them to produce this segmentf!", exclaims Jeff Huxmann, owner of SolTerra Communications.

In addition to the Wild Chronicles segment SolTerra has been working with National Geographic Digital Media, the web production arm of the Society, to film segments produced strictly for nationalgeographic.com. To view these videos please visit this LINK.
